Dubai, July 2, 2025 – Shelf Drilling has announced a major contract win with India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), further strengthening its foothold in the Indian offshore drilling market. The company’s J.T. Angel jack-up rig has been awarded a three-year contract for operations in the prolific Mumbai High field, with a total contract value of approximately $40 million.
The rig is currently undergoing contract preparation and is expected to begin operations in October 2025. This latest award reflects the competitive nature of the Indian offshore drilling landscape, which continues to be a strategically important region for Shelf Drilling.
Greg O’Brien, CEO of Shelf Drilling, commented:
“We are pleased to continue supporting ONGC with the award of this new contract. The contract reflects the near-term competitive environment in India, which is a strategically important market for Shelf Drilling, and we remain confident in its long-term fundamentals.”
In a separate update, the company revealed its decision to dispose of the Trident XII rig, which had completed its drilling campaign with ONGC earlier this year and is now stacked in India. The rig is expected to be sold for non-drilling purposes.
This development highlights Shelf Drilling’s continued commitment to optimizing its fleet while aligning with regional growth opportunities in the offshore energy sector.
