Petrobras has marked a significant milestone with the first oil production from FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, a high-capacity floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit operated by Netherlands-based SBM Offshore. This massive vessel is now operational at the Búzios field in Brazil’s pre-salt Santos Basin, contributing to Petrobras’ goal of reaching 1 million barrels of oil per day in the field by the second half of 2025.
Leased for 26.25 years, the FPSO has a production capacity of 225,000 barrels per day (bpd) and can process 12 million cubic meters of gas daily. Equipped with decarbonization technologies, including a closed flare system and heat recovery systems, it supports Petrobras’ sustainability efforts. As part of a larger Búzios expansion, which includes multiple FPSOs and 15 wells, Petrobras expects this field to become its largest producer, reaching 2 million barrels per day by 2030.
