Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras and Surinamese national oil company Staatsolie have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration opportunities across multiple sectors. The non-binding agreement aims to enhance cooperation in hydrocarbon exploration, production, carbon capture, new energy sources, and contingency response planning.
Petrobras and Staatsolie view this partnership as a potential way to advance sustainable oil and gas practices, contributing to climate resilience in the region. The collaboration may also include joint efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of hydrocarbon operations, leveraging each company’s technical expertise to meet both business and environmental goals.
This MoU aligns with Petrobras’ strategy of developing partnerships that allow for risk-sharing and innovation, particularly as the company focuses on positioning itself as a leader in the energy transition. By working together, the two companies aim to explore avenues for both economic growth and environmental sustainability in the energy sector.
