Noble Corporation’s drillship, the Venturer, has completed its drilling campaign on the Akeng Deep exploration well offshore Equatorial Guinea. Despite drilling to a depth of 4,030 meters and encountering oil zones in the Upper Albian, the well did not yield a commercial discovery. The oil zones found were deemed sub-commercial, marking the conclusion of the 2024 drilling campaign for Kosmos Energy and its partners.
Kosmos Energy, alongside Panoro Energy, Trident Energy, and Gepetrol, operates Block S in Equatorial Guinea. While the Akeng Deep well did not meet commercial expectations, the partnership has had success in the region. The Ceiba and Okume infill wells in Block G have been brought online and are performing better than anticipated.
John Hamilton, CEO of Panoro Energy, remarked that although the Akeng Deep results were disappointing, the oil zones encountered provided valuable insights that will help refine future exploration efforts in the area. This completion marks the end of the 2024 drilling campaign in Equatorial Guinea, with the partners now turning their focus to other areas of potential in the region.
The work done at Block G offers continued optimism, proving that the region remains an active and significant site for exploration and production activities. Despite the setbacks at Akeng Deep, the partnerships in Equatorial Guinea are poised to continue their efforts in tapping into the region’s oil and gas potential.
