Equinor, in partnership with DNO, has announced a significant oil and gas discovery in the northern part of the North Sea. This discovery further delineates the 2023 Heisenberg discovery, confirming its volume estimate of 24 to 56 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), with a mean of 37 MMboe.
The wildcat well 35/11-30 S, drilled using Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Atlantic rig, targeted the Angel prospect within production license 827 SB, awarded in 2022. The primary objective was to explore this prospect, and although it revealed recoverable volumes between 0.1-0.5 million Sm³ of oil equivalent, it was deemed not profitable under current market conditions.
The well also aimed to delineate the 35/10-9 Heisenberg discovery, confirming an oil presence and validating the initial estimates of 3.8-8.9 million standard cubic meters, equating to 24-56 million barrels.
Equinor operates the license with a 51% stake, while DNO holds the remaining 49%. The partners are now exploring potential tiebacks of Heisenberg to nearby infrastructure, potentially in coordination with the development of other recent discoveries around the Troll and Gjøa production hubs, enhancing the area’s prolific exploration activity.
