Constellation, an offshore drilling contractor, has secured two major contracts with Petrobras valued at $1 billion. These contracts involve the deployment of two ultra-deepwater drillships—the Laguna Star from Constellation’s fleet and Tidal Action, a newbuild rig owned by Hanwha Drilling—at the Roncador field in Brazil’s Campos Basin.
Set to generate 250 new jobs and retain an additional 250, the contracts, including mobilization fees and optional services, will last about 2.5 years each, starting in Q3 2025. The Laguna Star, already in service for Petrobras, will undergo adjustments and inspections before beginning its new contract. The Tidal Action—formerly known as West Libra—is being built in South Korea and marks the first time Constellation will operate a third-party-owned unit.
Both rigs are designed for ultra-deepwater drilling, with Laguna Star capable of operating in depths of 10,000 feet, while the seventh-generation Tidal Action can drill in waters up to 3,600 meters deep, bringing high efficiency and reliability to the project.
