Vår Energi, along with its partners Petoro, Aker BP, and Equinor, has drilled a dry well in the North Sea at the Kokopelli prospect, located south of the Sleipner area. This marks the third unsuccessful exploration attempt in the region, as two previous wells in the area also resulted in dry outcomes.
The wildcat well 7/1-4 S, drilled using the COSL Pioneer semi-submersible rig, targeted petroleum deposits in Upper Cretaceous limestone rocks within the Tor Formation. However, the well encountered 94 meters of poor-quality limestone rocks, failing to yield commercial hydrocarbons. The well reached a total vertical depth of 2,488 meters and was terminated in the Hod Formation in the Upper Cretaceous.
With a water depth of 81 meters, the well has now been permanently plugged and abandoned. The production license, PL 1190, was awarded in 2021 through Norway’s APA 2020 licensing round. Despite this setback, Vår Energi and its partners continue to explore opportunities in the region to strengthen their offshore portfolio.
