TotalEnergies has commenced drilling the Marula-1X exploration well in Block 2913B, offshore Namibia, marking a significant step in its planned two-well campaign. The drilling, which began on February 3, 2025, is being conducted by the semi-submersible rig Deepsea Mira. TotalEnergies leads the project with a 50.5% working interest, alongside partners Qatar Energy (30%), Impact Oil and Gas (9.5%), and NAMCOR (10%).
The well targets Albian-aged sandstones within the Marula fan complex, with the potential to unlock further exploration opportunities in the region. Meanwhile, drilling and testing at the Tamboti-1X well have concluded, confirming the presence of black oil in lower-quality Upper Cretaceous sandstones. The joint venture also plans to drill the Olympe-1X prospect in Block 2912 by late 2025. These efforts align with the ongoing development of the Venus field in the Orange Basin, which is expected to produce 150,000 barrels of oil per day, with a final investment decision anticipated by mid-2026.
