Shelf Drilling has announced a significant contract for its 300-ft jack-up rig, Main Pass IV, marking its next operational chapter offshore Nigeria. The agreement with an undisclosed operator spans a firm term of approximately two years and is slated to commence in December 2024.
The Main Pass IV is already positioned in Nigerian waters, having relocated to West Africa earlier this year. Following its suspension by Saudi Aramco in April 2024, Shelf Drilling opted to terminate the existing contract and re-market the rig outside the Middle East. By mid-2024, the rig had made its way to West Africa, where it underwent preparations for new opportunities.
This contract signifies a pivotal step for Shelf Drilling, reaffirming the company’s commitment to adapting to market dynamics and seizing opportunities in new regions. With operations set to begin soon, the Main Pass IV is poised to play a critical role in Nigeria’s offshore energy projects.
