The Norwegian Coast Center Base (CCB) has been awarded a critical contract by Odfjell Drilling to complete the five-year classification and Special Periodic Survey (SPS) of the Deepsea Yantai semisubmersible rig. Arriving at CCB’s Ågotnes yard on October 29, 2024, the rig is scheduled to undergo maintenance and compliance checks for roughly two weeks. This yard stay was strategically postponed to accommodate ongoing contract commitments, with the SPS originally due in June.
Prior to this classification work, Deepsea Yantai was on a Plug and Abandon (P&A) contract with Shell, covering multiple well sites across the Knarr and Gaupe fields. After completing the yard stay, Deepsea Yantai will resume operations in Norwegian waters with a slate of contracts, including work with PGNiG, DNO, and ConocoPhillips. Notably, this is the second Odfjell rig to be classified at CCB this year, following Deepsea Atlantic’s recent inspection and maintenance. This series of classifications underscores Odfjell’s commitment to maintaining high safety and operational standards within its fleet, which serves key offshore projects across the North Sea.
