  • Transocean Assigns Deepwater Thalassa to Woodside’s Offshore Mexico Contract

Transocean has confirmed that the 12,000-ft drillship Deepwater Thalassa will fulfill its upcoming contract with Woodside for drilling operations offshore Mexico. The contract, spanning from March 2026 to March 2029, is part of a 1,080-day agreement awarded in July 2023, carrying a $518 million backlog.

Woodside will deploy Deepwater Thalassa at its Trion development, where a floating production unit is currently under construction, with first oil expected in 2028. Before beginning work in Mexico, the Deepwater Thalassa will complete its current contract with Shell in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, which runs until February 2026.
