Seadrill’s ultra-deepwater drillship West Vela is set to return to action in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico under a new contract with Talos Energy. After completing successful campaigns with Diamond Offshore (now Noble Corporation) and Beacon Offshore Energy, West Vela will begin a 150-day assignment valued at approximately $73.5 million. The contract, which includes options for managed pressure drilling (MPD) services, is expected to commence following routine maintenance, reinforcing West Vela’s role as a key asset in offshore drilling.
Seadrill expressed excitement over West Vela’s return, highlighting the vessel’s proven track record and readiness for the new venture. The deal not only enhances Seadrill’s operational capabilities but also strengthens its position in the ultra-deepwater market. With West Vela back in familiar waters, Seadrill looks forward to delivering safe, efficient, and reliable drilling services for Talos Energy, continuing a proud legacy in the Gulf of Mexico.
